11.12.2008 : Ratings emerged at the conference in Genoa 31/11/2008 on alternative treatments to the gluten-free diet

The conference medical science that is ' held in Genoa on Nov. 30, the host of the first floor and ' was Prof. Gino Roberto Corazza , Director OU The internal medicine at the Policlinico San Matteo in Pavia , who last September was present as moderator of the conference AOCES ( Association of European Coeliac Society ) .

The Professor has summarized the results of the meeting of September restricted to researchers in the field .

He reported news about the studies conducted in the Netherlands to reach a variant of wheat gladina poor .
A search that will undoubtedly improve the palatability ' food for celiacs, but will not solve the problem of adherence to a diet , in this case , in fact, change the ingredients of our food , but we would remain , however, related to the products dietoterapeutici .

The prof. Corazza also reported that, again in the Netherlands, thanks to the studies conducted by Prof. Cisca Wijmenga were identified in 2008 as many as 13 new genes that, in addition to the now famous DQ2 , would be linked to celiac disease .
The research aims to identify each gene related to celiac disease , to arrive at a diagnosis than prior to the onset of the disease.
Unfortunately, though , and it ' still a long way from the discovery of all genes linked to celiac disease.

With reference , then , the long-awaited American pill , prof. Corazza has expressed doubts about the premise from which the research of Professor. Alessio Fasano.
This latter , in fact, believes that the intestine of celiac gluten arrivals passing between a cell and the other of the intestinal wall .
Based on this assumption and ' created the cd . antizonulina pill , able to close the openings between the cells and thus prevent reaching the intestine to gluten .
The prof. Corazza believes , however , that there is no certainty about the fact that gluten distance between the cells and not , instead , through them . If so, and then came the intestine to gluten intracellular pathway , the pill antizonulina would be useless.
The counter may only be offered by an intestinal biopsy which finds that the intake of gluten after ingesting the pill antizonulina has not caused any damage to the villi of the intestine.

It 'clear , therefore, that despite the research world , in short the only safe therapy remains the gluten-free diet .
